The year has changed, and it’s time once again to welcome both new and returning practitioners back to the tatami with the arrival of the new year! People often have numerous questions when stepping onto the tatami, and not everyone may have time to address everything in the hustle of the class, so it’s time for a quick summary!
- Who are the classes suitable for? Aikido is a martial art suitable for everyone interested in the discipline. Our club offers practices for juniors to seniors and everyone in between. You are welcome to try Aikido with us!
- Can I try the classes for free? Yes, you can try Aikido in any class on the schedule. If you have no prior experience, we recommend starting with beginner/fundamental technique classes. The schedule can be found on our website.
- Do I need to register in advance for classes? No, but registration, especially for special groups (EasySport, FunAction, and NYT-liikunta), is recommended for managing class sizes.
- How can I sign up for classes? Registration is done through the MyClub system. Through MyClub, you can sign up for classes, pay training and season fees, and track your own training progress.
- Do I need a practice uniform (keiko-gi) to participate in class? No, as a beginner, you don’t need a practice uniform. You can attend classes in comfortable, sport-appropriate clothing. We recommend long pants and a T-shirt as training attire.
And yes, you will need a practice uniform when you advance to proficiency tests (juniors) or belt tests (adults) or transition to training in general classes.
- Can I participate in proficiency/belt tests? Yes. Proficiency/belt tests follow the time and skill recommendations and pricing defined by the Aikido Federation.
- Do I need an Aikido Federation license? Yes, if you want to actively practice Aikido in any club. Every practitioner in Aikido Federation member clubs must have a valid Aikido license. More information about the license is available at https://www.aikidoliitto.fi/liitto/lisenssi/
- When do the practices begin? This year, the training season officially starts in week 2. This includes all classes, including special groups.
